Interlaken & the Jungfrau Region: Switzerland at Full Scale

This is where Switzerland becomes cinematic.

Interlaken is a quaint, quiet little town, and serves as the gateway to some of the most breathtaking scenery in Europe. If you want Alps, waterfalls, snow, and peace, this is where you stay.

Where to Stay

Hotel Interlaken

Central to both train stops, and situated perfectly in the valley for great access to restaurants and hiking. Quaint and very Swiss, with beautiful doors that open to a balcony with a bistro table, ideal for morning coffee or tea.

Must-Do Experiences

Bike to Lauterbrunnen

Bike from Interlaken through the valley, stop for a picnic, then hike to a waterfall. This is Switzerland at its most peaceful and memorable.

Jungfrau via Grindelwald

Take the Eiger Express gondola and continue to Jungfrau. Snow, ice tunnels, and breathtaking views. Plan a half day for this adventure. It’s worth every minute.

Paragliding in Interlaken

Terrifying? Yes. Incredible? Also yes. If you’re going to do it anywhere, this is the place. You will fly high at 5,000-plus feet after running off of a beautiful hill on the mountainside with a glorious view of the town below on its own. Soaring over the gorgeous valley below will take your breath away while possibly making you a little queasy. Roll with it and enjoy the ride.

Where to Eat

La Terrasse Brasserie - Located in the Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel and at the center of the main street, this was our favorite dinner spot in Interlaken. We actually went back twice. If the weather is nice, choose to dine outside with a blanket and a view of the mountains.

Strategy Notes

Interlaken is about access, not ambiance. Embrace that, and it becomes one of the most rewarding stops on your trip.
