4 Days in London: Neighborhoods, Dining & History

London is a city we return to, not one we try to conquer. Having visited before gave us permission to slow down—balancing iconic sights with neighborhoods, great meals, and long walks that felt distinctly London.

This itinerary reflects how we actually experienced the city: one area per day, plenty of breathing room, and meals worth planning around.

Trip Snapshot

  • Length: 4 days

  • Where we stayed: The Kensington Hotel

  • Style: Walk-heavy, food-forward, neighborhood-based

Day 1: South Kensington + Hyde Park + Royal Albert Hall

Morning / Midday

  • Arrive in London and check in (or drop bags) at The Kensington Hotel

  • Take a slow walk through Hyde Park straight from the hotel. Calming, green, and immediately grounding after travel.

Afternoon

  • Wander the residential streets of South Kensington

  • Stop into a local café or pub—this area feels elegant but lived-in

Evening

  • We hit the ground running with a show at Royal Albert Hall. It’s not only beautiful, but also offers incredible acoustics, and it’s one of the coolest concert venues we’ve ever experienced. I have traveled all over the US to see Dave Matthews Band perform live. Seeing them perform in Europe was the ultimate, and Royal Albert Hall took it to the next level.

Day 2: Notting Hill Day (Shopping &Cafés)

This was our favorite full day in London.

Morning

  • Head to Notting Hill

  • Breakfast at Electric Diner on Portobello Road. Fantastic food and a cool, buzzy atmosphere. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Late Morning–Afternoon

  • Walk Notting Hill slowly, experience the neighborhood

  • Pop into boutiques and side streets to discover brands you may not know yet (this is where we first found American Vintage and loved its simple, solid-focused style).

  • Be sure to visit Portobello Road Market, the crown jewel of the area. Fridays and Saturdays are the best days to explore hundreds of stalls selling vintage fashion, street food, and rare antiques.

Lunch

  • Casual café or light bite as you stroll through the neighborhood (no overplanning needed)

Evening

  • After a day of shopping, stop in for dinner at Jacuzzi on your way back to your hotel from Notting Hill. This is a glamorous Italian dining experience from the Big Mamma Group. If you loved Pink Mamma in Paris, this is the London answer.

Day 3: Classic London Sights + Covent Garden

Morning

Afternoon

  • Lunch at The Blue Boar Pub: A refined pub experience within walking distance of Westminster Abbey—classic without feeling touristy.

  • Then head toward Covent Garden, making a stop at the London Eye on your way.

  • Wander the streets, shops, and arcades. It’s busy, but still beautiful and worth seeing.

Dinner

  • Head back to your hotel and get ready for a great dinner in Kensington at The Ivy Kensington, just moments away from your hotel.

Day 4: Natural History Museum, Harrods, & Nobu

Morning

  • Experience the Natural History Museum by booking a private guide, skipping the line, and arriving just before the doors open to beat the crowds.

Afternoon

  • Walk over to Harrods

  • Window shop and browse fashion floors

  • Great finds from ME+EM if you love elevated basics

Evening

  • Cocktails at The Connaught Bar provide a stylish, memorable, and perfect before-dinner experience.

  • Dinner at Nobu Old Park Lane was our best meal in London. We make an effort to go to Nobu in every city we visit. This location lived up to all Nobu has to offer. If you love sushi, this one is worth planning around.

Restaurant Recap

  • Best meal: Nobu Old Park Lane

  • Best breakfast: Electric Diner

  • Best drinks: The Connaught Bar

Shopping Recap

  • Best neighborhood: Notting Hill

  • Best find: American Vintage

  • Worth browsing: Harrods (especially fashion)

Lessons Learned

  • Walk more than you tube

  • Plan days by neighborhood

  • Make breakfast reservations in Notting Hill

  • Leave evenings flexible
